A well-known American college football player, an aspiring young nurse and the mother of a four-year-old boy were among the victims of the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans in which at least 15 people were killed.

Their names are revealed by their families and relatives before the authorities complete post-mortem examinations.

Here’s what we know so far.

Martin “Tiger” Peck, who was in his late twenties, was a former football player at Princeton University.

His death was confirmed in a university statement.

“There could not have been a more fitting nickname for the Princeton player I coached,” Princeton football coach Bob Surace said in a statement.

“He was a tiger through and through, a fierce competitor with endless energy, a beloved colleague and a caring friend.”

Jack Beck, Martin Beck’s brother, posted a tribute on X alongside a news article reporting his death.

“Love you always brother!” books. “You inspired me every day, and now you can be with me every moment. You’ve got this family T, don’t worry. This is for us.”

He was special, said St. Thomas More principal Marty Cannon, Mr. Beck’s coach his senior year of high school.

“I don’t think there’s ever been anyone like Tiger,” he said.

“We can go on and on about how great an athlete he was, but he was so much more than that. He was a complete man and he was a stand-up guy that we really respected and honored, and we really loved.”

Mr. Bech was a member of the 2016 and 2018 Ivy League championship teams.

The 18-year-old was an aspiring nurse.

Her mother, Melissa Dido, confirmed her death on social media.

“I lost my child, just pray for me and my family please!!! Oh my God, I need you now!!” the mother pleaded with a photo of her daughter wearing a red graduation cap and gown from this year.

Ms Dido – who is also a nurse – told local media Nola that her daughter was due to start her nursing training later this month.

She added that Nekira snuck out with her cousin and her boyfriend, and they both survived.

Dante Reed, Nikira’s school friend, told the New York Times that he received a panicked phone call from her cousin, saying they had run away when they heard gunshots and that she – Nikira – was missing.

“She was happy with the short time we had with her,” her grandmother, Jennifer Smith, told the newspaper.

“I am very proud of all my grandchildren, this one in particular.”

Last year, Mr. Badawi, on Facebook, congratulated Karim after he graduated from high school.

Kareem was a student at the University of Alabama, and its president, Stuart R. Bell, said: “I grieve with Kareem’s family and friends in their tragic loss.”
