Rangers failed to build on their impressive win over the Old Firm as Hibs’ impressive form continued, and Aberdeen’s woes continued as St Johnstone’s survival hopes took another hit.

Rangers’ inconsistency sees Hibs remain unbeaten

Following their impressive 3-0 win over Celtic, Rangers’ faltering away form once again proved costly as they had to settle for a draw at Easter Road.

Philippe Clement stuck with the same starting XI as the Old Firm side, but they failed to reach the same form as at Ibrox three days ago, dropping points in seven of their ten away league games this season.

The bright spark for the Ibrox side was Hamza Ijamani and his hat-trick, but there were several missed opportunities to wrap up the win and keep the pressure on Celtic in the title race.

Hibs were torn apart in the early stages but their resilience shone once again as they twice came from behind to pick up a point and extend their unbeaten run to six games.

David Gray’s side have gained 10 points from losing their Premier League places this season, and Rocky Bushiri’s header shows the players now have the fight that seemed lacking a few months ago.

The two sides of Aberdeen

Although Aberdeen were impressive at the start of the season, they are now dismal with no wins in their last 10 matches.

While Jimmy Thelen admits the Dons have “issues to solve”, he still believes their current form can be turned around, and given they were unbeaten in 11 games earlier in the season, you feel victory should come again soon.

They struggled in the first half at Motherwell with Slobodan Rubisic clearly red carded for frustration, and looked brighter after the break.

Leighton Clarkson’s introduction came with some fighting with the midfielder hitting the crossbar.

Can St Johnstone recover from its cliff?

Without a win in eight games and now eight points adrift at the foot of the Scottish Premiership, St Johnstone still have a long way to go to come back.

They trailed 3-0 to Dundee with half an hour to play on Sunday and it is clear to see that Simo Valacari needs to be allowed to strengthen his squad this month.

Defenders must have priority. They have conceded 19 first-half goals in 22 Premier League matches this season, the worst record in the league.

Kyle Cameron and Lewis Nelson have been recalled by Notts County and Hearts meaning there will have to be additions if they are to survive another season in the Championship.

What did we learn?

Celtic’s unbeaten run was halted at Ibrox but they showed it was a one-off as they bounced straight back to a dominant display against St Mirren.

Brendan Rodgers’ side lead by 13 points in the title race after a 3-0 win over a St Mirren team that did little at Parkhead.

Hearts have shown improvement since their derby defeat to Hibs and made it back-to-back wins in 2025 with a 1-0 win over Dundee United.

Jim Goodwin’s side struggled as they failed to make it four straight wins to strengthen their grip on third place.

With just three points separating 11th and seventh in the league, this was also a crucial 1-0 win for Ross County as they moved above rivals Kilmarnock into ninth.
