A nine-darts tournament and Luke Littler’s impressive heroics have helped The BIGGER 180 charity campaign raise more than £1 million for Prostate Cancer UK at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
Paddy Power has once again supported Prostate Cancer UK through its charitable activity at the World Darts Championships, held from 15 December to 3 January at London’s Alexandra Palace and broadcast live on Sky Sports, where The BIGGER 180 was a huge success.
The bookmaker has pledged £1,000 for every 180 results during the tournament, with a maximum of 907 achieved over the 16 days of play and the total showing during Sky Sports’ live coverage.
Littler shot more 180s than any other player en route to his first World Darts Championship title, producing 76 times in the tournament, 20 more than nearest rival Michael van Gerwen.
Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy was an ambassador for The BIGGER 180, presenting the Sid Waddell Trophy as well as a Ballon d’Art award to Littler after Friday’s final.
A £60,000 bonus was paid out for every nine quarters achieved at the event, with Christian Krest and Damon Hita each securing a perfect leg to stimulate an additional £120,000 donation, leaving The BIGGER 180 campaign seeing a donation of £1,027. £000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
Kest’s nine-shot was his first since Michael Smith’s famous ‘I can’t talk’ strike in the 2023 final, although the Dutchman lost his first-round match 3-1 to the Madras Razma.
Hita’s perfect leg came in his 4-3 loss to Luke Woodhouse, with both players pocketing £60,000 with an additional £60,000 going to a lucky fan in the crowd.
More than 160,000 people used Prostate Cancer UK’s online risk checker during the tournament, answering a 30-second questionnaire which can quickly highlight their risk of being among the one in eight men who will develop prostate cancer – the cancer. Most common among men.
Funds raised from the BIGGER 180 campaign during the Paddy Power World Darts Championship supported the UK’s pioneering TRANSFORM prostate cancer screening trial, aiming to find the best way to diagnose the disease earlier – and pave the way for a national screening programme.
