Manchester City have generated record club revenue over the past 12 months, with their brand once again valued more highly than local rivals Manchester United ahead of Sunday’s derby, live. Sky Sports.

Their annual report, released on Friday morning, gave a snapshot of their current financial position – with the club’s revenue rising by £2.2m to £715m.
City also made a profit of £73.8m – the second highest ever figure, down £6.6m on the previous 12 months when they won the treble and received additional prize money and broadcast revenue as a result of their achievements on the pitch. City made a profit of more than £139 million from player sales.

City remain the most valuable club football brand in the Premier League too, once again overtaking United into second place, with the Brand Finance Football 50 report valuing City at £1.33bn and United at £1.16bn.
These positive numbers for City belie United’s financial situation at the moment, ahead of their meeting at the Etihad this weekend.
United made a loss of £113m last year and have not recorded an annual profit since 2019.
There have been widespread redundancies at United, with Christmas bonuses cut for staff and ticket prices increased for fans.

It was held at the International Center for Dispute Resolution near St Paul’s in London and began on 16 September, before concluding 12 weeks later, last Friday, 6 December.
A decision is expected in the spring, likely around March.
Both sides have the right to appeal, which could take several months.
In February 2023, the Premier League accused City of violating more than 100 of its financial rules.
The alleged violations cover the period between 2009 and 2018.
City denies all charges which include:
- Failure to provide accurate financial information for nine seasons
- – Not providing full details of players’ wages for six seasons
- Not providing full details of Roberto Mancini’s wages for four seasons
- Failure to cooperate with the investigation conducted by the English Premier League for four years
- Failure to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules for five seasons
UEFA’s two-year ban on City was overturned at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in July 2020, and in 2014, the club was fined £49m for breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, which was suspended. £32 million of it.
What could happen to City if they are found guilty?
Under Premier League rules, any penalty could be a points deduction or even the threat of expulsion from the Premier League – although this would be a severe penalty.
