Ange Postecoglou says he is not focused on talking about his future after James Maddison described Tottenham’s first-half display in the 3-2 defeat to Everton as “unacceptable”.
Everton have scored just 15 goals in their first 20 league games this season, but found the back of the net three times in the first 45 minutes on Sunday, breaking down some of Tottenham’s terrible defences.
“There are no excuses during the first half,” midfielder Madison said. “It was a tough afternoon. We had a decent starting 11, so there was context. But we had 11 starting players and it was an unacceptable first half.”
Postecoglou had placed his team in a back three with a list of 11 injured players, and later admitted that the plan had not worked. Radu Dragosin, who was cut off, had to be replaced at half-time and another line-up change at least gave Spurs a platform to pull two goals back and set up a nervy finish for their hosts.
But with just one league win in their last 10 games, Spurs are languishing in 15th place, just eight points above the relegation zone and four clear of the Everton side most people consider to be in the relegation battle.
Tottenham lead 1-0 in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Liverpool, but after being forced into extra time by non-league Tamworth in the FA Cup, losing to arch-rivals Arsenal in midweek and now being humbled at Everton, the pressure is on. On Postecoglou.
“I separate myself from it,” the Tottenham manager said when asked about speculation over his future. “This is not about me. What it is about is that I have a responsibility to the group of players that I have to try to get through this. That’s all I have to focus on. For me, focusing on anything else is abstaining from the responsibility that I have.”
“I’m determined to get us out of this. The club is doing everything we can to help – it’s more about helping the players than me. We’re asking for huge jobs for 18-year-olds and 17-year-olds.” Trying to win football games for us and for others who play week in and week out.”
Postecoglou remains optimistic that once Tottenham start getting their injured players back, they will be able to produce performances and results to lift them from their humble league position and help them challenge for silverware success.
“We look at the situation we are in and it will eventually dissipate in terms of player availability and then give ourselves a chance to at least get some consistency in games and performances,” he said. “Keep fighting. I haven’t lost my faith or my determination to turn things around. The players showed in the second half that they won’t give up. We’ll fight our way through this.”
However, the Australian later said that many players were unlikely to return from the treatment room soon – other than Rodrigo Bentancur, who is undergoing concussion protocols, and Yves Bissouma, who could return next weekend.
Dominic Solanke, who was injured in training ahead of the Everton match, could miss a few weeks with a knee problem, and Brennan Johnson will miss “probably three to four weeks” due to a calf injury he suffered against Arsenal, while Tottenham will also be without Jed. Spence and Sergio Reguilón against Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday because they are not registered for that competition.

O’Hara: Big Aang’s in big trouble!
former Tottenham Midfielder Jimmy O’Hara on Sky Sports News:
“He’s in big trouble. This is where he is. Big Ang is in big trouble.”
“It was a shocking first half. They were better in the second half, creating chances. But Everton will always sit down. They were 3-0 up.
“I understand there are injuries. I understand that. But you are professionals. You cannot tell me that Ben Davies is not good enough, Dragosin is not good enough, Pape Sarr, Maddison, Heung-Min Son, Dejan Kulusevski.” … You have good players on this team, Pedro Burro, Jed Spence, and you still have the best players on the team to get results.
“I know there are some young kids out there, but you bring them in to play when the other players can’t play. So they have to perform. And they don’t perform.
“Where are the leaders on the pitch? Where are the personalities? Where is your captain? Son is supposed to be the leader. He’s not a leader. Listen, he’s a fantastic player, and he’s been an incredible servant to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. He’s not a leader.” captain.
“He won’t dig you out of a hole. He won’t get players by the neck. He’s the nicest guy in the world. Everyone loves him. He’s a really nice guy. Is this what you need?”

“I saw Ruben Amorim, who did an unbelievable job at Sporting, go to Manchester United and it looked bad. So what’s the answer? I’m not sure. I don’t think Ange will change. I don’t think Ange will change. I don’t think Ange will solve this mess .
“Tottenham are 15th in the table and if it continues like this, they are in a relegation battle. You cannot keep a manager in charge of a football club just because you beat Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg from the Carabao.” Kop [semi-final].
“You still have to go to Anfield. Are you waiting until then to see if we qualify and get to the final because he says he won titles in his second season? The Premier League is his bread and butter. You have to perform week in and week out.” “In a week outside the Premier League, Tottenham doesn’t do that.”
