The current leader of the country explained that the first president of the independent Namibia, Sam Nogoma, died at the age of 95 in the capital, Winduk.
Nujoma led the long battle for independence from South Africa in 1990 after the liberation movement in Namibia, known as the South West Peoples (SWAPO) in the 1960s.
After independence, Nogoma became president in 1990 and led the country until 2005.

He added: “Our founding father lived a long life and raised her subordination, during which he exceeded the exceptional people of his beloved country.”
Nujoma has retired as head of state in 2005, but he continued to lead the party before step down in 2007 as head of the ruling SWAPO party after 47 years at the head.
