Local authorities said that twelve people were injured after a hand grenade was thrown into a crowded pub in the French city of Greenoppe.
The accident occurred in the AKSEHIR Port after 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT) on Wednesday evening, leaving two people in critical condition.
The motivation behind the attack is unclear, but investigators say it “may be linked to the settlement of grades.”
Prosecutor Francois Tort de Corsy said that eyewitnesses stated that the suspect, whose identity has not yet been determined, may have a Kalashnikov offensive rifle.
Speaking to the journalists at the scene, he said: “There is nothing that makes us believe that it is linked to terrorism,” the incident describes as a “severe violence.”
He added that the investigators were looking for the potential ties of drug trafficking.
The authorities said that many people were in the place, located in the city’s Olympic village neighborhood, when the suspect entered a short period.
About 80 firefighters and police officers were deployed at the scene with the area that surrounded the area on Thursday morning, according to French paper reports.
Deputy Mayor Chloe Bandel told Agence France Presse that the place was “a place where the local residents and people from outside the neighborhood meet, especially to watch football matches.”
She added that the presence of the police in the area will remain for a while.
After publishing X, Mayor Eric Biol condemned what he described as “a criminal act of unusual violence”, before he thanked the rescue and security forces for “his rapid intervention.”
