US Vice President JD Vance launched a widespread attack on European democracies, saying that the biggest threat to the continent was not from Russia and China, but “from the inside.”
Vance was expected to use his speech at the Munich Security Conference to address potential talks to end the war in Ukraine.
Instead, he spent the majority that accused European governments – including the United Kingdom – of retracting their values, ignoring voters’ fears about immigration and freedom of expression.
The title was silently met in the hall, and it was later condemned by many politicians at the conference. German Defense Secretary Boris Peporius said it was “unacceptable.”
The Trump management line has repeated that Europe should “go up in a big way to provide its own defense.”
The Ukraine’s war was mentioned, where Vans said he hoped to reach a “reasonable settlement”, after US President Donald Trump announced earlier this week that he and Russia Vladimir Putin had agreed to start peace talks.
However, Vans’s speech focused otherwise on the issues of cultural war and the main topics of Trump’s campaign of the US presidency – a departure from the usual security and defense discussions at the annual conference.
He claimed that the “Commissioners” of the European Union were suppressing freedom of expression, blame the continent for collective migration, and accused its leaders of retracting some of its basic values. “
The head of the European Union’s foreign policy, Kaja Callas, described Vans as “trying to choose a battle” with Europe, having some of the closest allies of the United States.
Vans used his 20 -minute speech to the individual of many European countries, including the United Kingdom.

The safe area, which was presented in October 2022, prohibits activity in favor or against abortion services, including protests, harassment and events.
But Vance argued that “the basic freedoms of religious British, in particular,” were under a threat.
Nine days before the tense national elections in Germany, it touched on a hot discussion in the country about the prevailing political parties that maintain the so -called “Wall of Protection” not to cooperate with the extreme right -wing alternative to the Germany party (AFD).
In contracts that followed the restoration of democracy in Germany after the defeat of the Nazis, there was a consensus among its main political parties not to work with the right -wing extremist parties.
“Democracy depends on the sacred principle that matters to the voice of people,” Vans said. “There is no room for protection walls. You either support the principle or not.”
In his own speech, Pistorius Vans addressed directly, saying: “Democracy has been questioned by the US Vice President of entire Europe.
“Speaks about the extermination of democracy,” Pistorius continued. “And if you understand it correctly, it compares the conditions in parts of Europe with those in the authoritarian regimes … and this is unacceptable.”
Vans also referred to the presidential elections in Romania, which was canceled in December after the proposal of the documents that were raised. It was targeting the intervention of the Russian state.
“If your democracy can be destroyed by a few $ 100,000 of digital advertisements from a foreign country, it is not strong to start,” Vans told the conference.
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Seolalo said his country is still “defending the democratic values that Europe shares with the United States.”
“All Row [Romanian] The authorities are committed to organizing free and fair elections by empowering citizens and ensuring freedom of vote. ”He wrote X.
Vance later met with Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski on the sidelines of the conference, which mainly focused on Russia’s invasion of Russia on a large scale.
Zelinski said during the meeting that more work is needed when planning to end the fighting, while Vans said that the couple shared a “fruitful” conversation.
Trump said that the Russian and Ukrainian officials would meet in Munich, but Moscow said it did not send a delegation to the summit.
