Unifil peacekeeper injured as convoy attacked in Lebanon happymamay

The force of preserving the United States in Lebanon says that its outgoing deputy commander was injured after one of his cabinets was “violently attacking.”

The UNIFIL temporary force said in a statement that the convoy was taking the peace lawyer to Beirut airport when it was targeted and one of its cars was set.

The mission requested a “full and immediate” investigation by the Lebanese authorities.

Both the Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam and the Lebanese army condemned the attack on UNIFIL, and said they would work to arrest those involved.

Several joint videos online show one vehicle of the United Nations, as a group of young people, carrying yellow flags, chasing and overcoming what they seem to be a peace museum while trying to escape.

Separate shots show a group of men screaming kicking, hitting and climbing a convoy of three United Nations vehicles along a dark road.

The injured UNIFIL captain, who was unnamed, was returning home after completing his mission, according to the statement.

“We were shocked by this obscene attack on the peacekeeping forces who were working to restore security and stability to southern Lebanon during a difficult period,” he added.

“The attacks on the peacekeeping forces are flagrant violations of international law, and war crimes have been highly elevated. We demand the full and immediate investigation by the Lebanese authorities and all the perpetrators to bring justice.”

Supporters of the Lebanese Armed Group gathered Hezbollah outside Beirut airport since Thursday for a confrontation between Lebanon and Iran that witnessed two Iranian planes that were prohibited from landing in the Lebanese capital.

The case left dozens of Lebanese citizens who were cut off in Iran.

“The attack on Unifil is an attack on southern Lebanon,” said AMAL, a group allied with Hezbollah, and described it as “a stab in civil peace.”

Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmed Al -Hajar told the government media that he would hold a security meeting on Saturday in light of the attack, describing it as a “crime against peacekeepers.”

UNIFIL was created to monitor a buffer zone that was created near the border with Israel after the end of the 2006 Lebanon war, and has jobs throughout southern Lebanon.
