Ukraine President Volodimir Zellinsky called for the creation of a “army from Europe” to protect from Russia, as he suggested that the United States may no longer come to help the continent.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, he also said that Ukraine “will never accept the deals behind our backs without our involvement” after US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to start peace talks.
In Friday’s speech, Where he attacked European democraciesUS Vice President JD Vance warned that Europe needed a “great escalation” to the defense.
“I really think the time has come – the armed forces in Europe must be created,” Zelinski said.
He said: “Yesterday here in Munich, the US Vice President explained [that] Contracts from the old relationship between Europe and America ending.
“From now on, things will be different and Europe must adapt however.”
Earlier this week, US Defense Secretary Beit Higseth said that Russia’s full invasion of Ukraine was “the factory reset” on NATO, who indicated that the coalition needed to be “strong”, “strong” and “real”.
On Saturday, Zellinski said: “Let’s be honest. Now we cannot exclude the possibility that America will say no to Europe in a case that threatens it.
“Many leaders have talked about Europe that need its army.
“Army, Army from Europe.”
The concept of the European army is something that other leaders proposed, including the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who has long supported the army’s army to limit its dependence on the United States.
“A few days ago, President Trump told me about his conversation with Putin. He didn’t say once that America needs Europe on the table – this says a lot,” Zelinski said.
“The old days ended when America supported Europe just because it was always.”
As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is widely approaching a three -year anniversary, Trump and Hegseth said it is unlikely that Ukraine will join NATO.
The US Secretary of Defense also said that returning to the borders of Ukraine before 2014 was unrealistic.
“He will not take NATO membership in Ukraine from the table.”
