Brazilian teenager Joao FONSECA became the first player born in 2006 to win an individual ATP Tour, who confirmed his position as one of the promising tennis stars.
The 18-year-old defeated Francisco Serundolo 6-4 7-6 (7-1) in the Argentina Open Final, a result that made him the tenth champion in the history of the ATP tour and raised it to 68 in the world rankings before his home event at Rio de Janeiro advanced The week.
FONSECA is the fourth largest player since 2000 to win an ATP individual title, after the Japanese Kei Nishikori and Spanish duo Rafael Nadal and Carlos Caras.
His victory in Buenos Aires follows the following Gen ATP Cup in December – a championship for the best male players between the ages of 21 years and below – then amazing AndrĂ© Roblev in the first round of the Australian Open in January.
FONSECA’s victory over Cerundolo came in his opponent’s city after the young man fought from the early collapse of the opening group.

Alcaraz, Andy Murray and Boris Baker were among those who praised Fonsika on social media, with Murray written on X: “You cannot wait for the first FONSECA VS alcaraz.”
Baker added: “Watch this young man from Brazil. The sky is the limit …”
