The Vatican said that Pope Francis, who was fighting pneumonia and bronchitis for more than three weeks, showed a “good response” to treatment.

The Vatican said: “The clinical condition of the Holy Father remained in recent days stable, and thus indicates a good response to treatment,” the Vatican said.

“So there is a gradual, slight improvement,” he added.

The 88 -year -old prayed on Saturday morning in the chapel The papal wing at Gemili Hospital in RomeWhere he is treated.

The Argentine back has not been seen in public places since he was hospitalized, and it is his longest extension away from the public eye since the papacy began 12 years ago.

He was admitted to the hospital on February 14 after he faced breathing difficulties – and first treatment with bronchitis before diagnosing pneumonia in both lungs.

It is especially vulnerable to pneumonia, and it is an infection of the lungs that can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, after contracting the pleura – an inflammation in the lungs – when he was a young man and had a partial removal of the lung.

Pope’s doctors believe that he is likely to face a long way to recover, because of his age and medical history.
