Ivan Juric to Southampton: Former Roma boss agrees deal to replace Russell Martin as head coach | Football News happymamay

Ivan Juric has agreed an 18-month contract to become the new manager of Southampton.

The deal includes a break option which will be reviewed this summer. If Southampton avoids relegation this season, Juric’s contract could be extended for another two years.

Juric is scheduled to take over as coach of Southampton after his dismissal Rome Last month, it lasted less than two months.

Southampton have long been admirers of the Croatian, with the 49-year-old listed by Saints as a replacement for Ralph Hasenhüttl when the Austrian was sacked two years ago.

The Saints have also looked at West Brom boss Carlos Corberan and former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand, while Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rhule has also been linked with the job.

The Croatian coach began his coaching career under Gian Piero Gasperini – who is currently the revolutionary coach at Atalanta.

Juric worked on Gasperini’s coaching staff at Inter Milan and Palermo, before taking his first job at Mantua in the third division in the 2014-2015 season.

The following season, he took a job in Serie B at Crotone and promoted them to Serie A for the first time in the club’s history that term. However, he did not take them to the Italian Premier League, as he was offered to replace Gasperini at Genoa, which he accepted.

Juric subsequently had three separate spells at Genoa within two years, being sacked by the club three times between February 2017 and December 2018.

He finally found stability at Hellas Verona in 2019, who had just been promoted to Serie A. And with one of the smallest budgets in the league, he kept them in Serie A for two consecutive seasons – before taking over as Torino coach.

The Croatian left Torino at the end of last season after three seasons in the Italian League and took over as coach of Roma in September of this year after the dismissal of the Friedkin group, the fan favorite, Daniele De Rossi. However, Juric did not even last two months as he was sacked with the Giallorossi four points above the relegation zone.
