Ange Postecoglou admits that a “fair portion” of people will think he should be sacked as Tottenham manager, but he believes his players are giving him everything.
Tottenham squandered a 1-0 lead in the first half against Leicester City to suffer their fourth consecutive defeat in the league, while their only Premier League win in their last 11 matches came at bottom of the table Southampton.
Tottenham have suffered back-to-back defeats to struggling teams, with their defeat to Everton – in a match that saw them trail 3-0 at half-time – followed by defeat to Leicester, who have already lost seven consecutive league games. .
Tottenham are still on course to win a first title in 17 years with the north London side in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, a fourth FA Cup run, and on course to reach the last 16 of the Europa League.
But their alarming form in the Premier League, which has seen them close to the bottom three of the top half of the table, has put Postecoglou under enormous pressure after seven league defeats in their last eight games.
When asked if he should remain in the role once all his key players return from injury, he said: “Who knows? Quite a few will say no.”
“When you are a coach of a football club, you can feel weak and isolated. I don’t feel that. The players are doing everything they can. I focus on that and try to support the players.”
Postecoglou revealed that both Richarlison and Pape Sarr, in an ideal world, would not have started against Leicester, but due to injury problems, he had no choice but to play with them.
“It doesn’t occur to me to try to convince people. I’ve been here long enough for people to judge where we are at the moment, which is not good enough,” he said.
“If people want to put context on it that’s fine. The players are doing everything they can. Two players were not supposed to be there but they are desperate to turn our fortunes around. In the next 10 days, we should get some important results.” The players coming back will help us, we still have great chances to make an impact, I’m sure that will happen.
Despite the defeat and their fragile position in the English Premier League, Postecoglou still hopes that Tottenham can achieve “something special” this season in the cup competitions.
He added: “The players are committed to what we do. This is important to me. I believe in it. This is our lowest level this year but in the next three months we can do something really special.” Players believe that at the moment, it is difficult to imagine that in our circumstances. Just look at the absences, but all these things don’t allow us to get any momentum.
O’Hara screams at Tottenham: “Anger is out of his depth!”
Former Tottenham midfielder Jimmy O’Hara She let out an unusual scream at Sky Sports News After the defeat to Leicester, Postecoglou was claimed to be “out of form” and would soon be sacked.
“Ange Postecoglou is beyond his capabilities,” O’Hara said. “Human management, in-game management, is not good enough today. I’m out of ideas.”
“He tried to change tactics against Everton last week. We were 3-0 down at half-time. We were 2-1 down against Leicester, and I don’t see a change in the way we play.”
“I don’t see a change in the way we do things. Miles away from all of them. And the leaders on the football field who are supposed to be good players, they don’t step up to the plate.”
“The problem is the fact that you have players available who are not doing the job. You have Daniel Levy who doesn’t want to put his hand in his pocket and bring in players when the team has injuries, and he still doesn’t get a player over the line because he doesn’t want to pay the money.
“And you have a coach in Postecoglou who is very stubborn and will not change the way he plays. He has no plan B and he has no plan C. He will not change the way he wants to play.
“They are out of ideas. Tottenham are out of ideas because they only know one way to play. They have no idea how to do it. They are in a relegation battle. Tottenham are in a relegation battle. Fighting. I’m telling you now.”
“Teams are getting better underneath them. Every team around them, if you look at it, West Ham have sacked their manager. Everton have sacked their manager. Manchester United have sacked their manager. Wolves have sacked their manager. Do you really think they’re in danger of relegation?
“The race is unacceptable. Tottenham are in a relegation battle and need to consolidate their ideas, sign some good players quickly and decide what to do with Ange Postecoglou. Because at the moment, what he offers is not important.” Not good enough.
“I know there are injuries and I know there are problems, but that’s not acceptable. You can’t lose 13 Premier League games as Tottenham manager. I know you have the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool, who we are by far the best team in Europe at the time.” Currently, you are holding out hope that we may reach the final.
“And Ange says it all, we won the title in my second season. Do me a favour. You’re the Tottenham manager. You’re 15th in the table. You’ve lost 13 games.
“This is unacceptable. Any other manager, Harry Redknapp, Juande Ramos, all these managers, Pochettino, Conte, Mourinho, if they were 15th in the standings as Tottenham manager, they would be out the door. They are gone.”
“See you later. Why does Ange get the pass? Why? I don’t understand it. Is it because of Mourinho and Conte and the fact that he plays attacking football, right? Who cares about attacking football? Seriously, who cares.” You have to be organised.”
He added: “I think you might give Ange the Carabao Cup game against Liverpool but then you are grasping at straws. I think he will be sacked after the second leg with Liverpool. He needs help. Daniel Levy has had the opportunity to sign players.” He could have helped him but I don’t understand what he is trying to do and who is trying to cross the line.
“It’s embarrassing. Go make a statement. West Ham at least tried to go out and sign Duran. Postecoglou needs help. Whenever you look at the Bournemouth coach… [Andoni Iraola]Whenever I think I wouldn’t mind having him at Tottenham. Bournemouth is organized, but Tottenham is disorganized.
“Bournemouth have had injuries, they are still doing their job. Don’t tell me they don’t have problems. You can’t just blame injuries. They haven’t gotten the best out of their players.
“I think he will be sacked after the Liverpool game. We will be defeated. We will keep him until then because he probably deserves that game. I think Liverpool will be better than us that night and they will qualify.” But the problem you then face is who comes?
“There is no point in having Ryan Mason until the end of the season, it is better to stay with Ange.”
Son: Leicester’s loss is painful
Tottenham captain Heung Min Son He described the loss to Leicester as “painful.”
said the South Korean, who has been at the club for nearly a decade Sky Sports: “It’s always difficult to break down or score goals when it’s a day that doesn’t happen, and you always feel more frustrated than you should be.
“We were very frustrated and made bad decisions. It hurts.”
The 32-year-old added: “We have to pick ourselves up mentally and get going again because we have a game in three days. Sometimes it’s really difficult.
“We came back from winning in Germany and lost an important league game. It’s very difficult.”
