Australia vs India: Rain wrecks day one of third Test with just 13.2 overs bowled in Brisbane | Cricket News happymamay

Rain pretty much wiped out the first day of the third Test between Australia and India in Brisbane with just 13.2 bowled.

Australia openers Usman Khawaja (19 not out off 47 balls) and Nathan McSweeney (4 not out off 33) guided the home side to 28-0 after India won the toss and elected to bowl.

Indian seamer Akash Deb, who came into the side in place of Harshit Rana, had his lbw appeal against McSweeney dismissed but there were no further bookings for the hosts.

Play was only possible during two periods in the morning session and the match was called off for the day an hour before the scheduled close at The Gabba.

The start of day two has been moved forward by half an hour to 9.50am (11.50pm in the UK and Ireland) and 98 balls are scheduled to be bowled, although more rain is forecast.

The series was locked at 1-1 after two Tests

Australia beat India by 10 wickets in the second day-night Test last week in Adelaide to level the five-match series 1-1, after the tourists won the first in Perth by 295 runs.

India must win at least two of their last three Tests in Australia – there are more matches in Melbourne and Sydney – to reach next summer’s World Test Championship final at Lord’s.

Australia will reach the final with at least two more wins against India.

Australia have recalled Josh Hazlewood who is back fit for the Brisbane Test – the 33-year-old missed the match in Adelaide with a side issue – with Scott Bolland withdrawing.

India replaced Ravichandran Ashwin with fellow spinner Ravindra Jadeja in addition to selecting Deb instead of Rana.
