The White House says that the United States will not go ahead with the customs tariff for Colombia, after the country agreed to accept – without restrictions – migrants were deported.
Donald Trump had ordered 25 % on all Colombian goods after its president prevented two military flights from landing in the country on Sunday.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro initially responded by saying that his country would accept the two departments to “civilian aircraft, without being treated like criminals.”
The White House statement says that Colombia has now agreed to accept migrants who reach US military aircraft “without restrictions or delay.” Colombia says Washington has agreed to treat citizens who are returning home in dignity.
On Sunday, Petro denied that US military deportations entered, saying that migrants should return “with dignity and respect.”
In response, Trump announced “urgent and decisive reprisers” in a post on social media, including definitions and visa penalties.
Petro responded to X in a publication announced by its own tariff and celebrating heritage and flexibility in Colombia.
“Your siege does not scare me, because Colombia, along with being a country of beauty, is the heart of the world,” he said.
Within hours, the two sides seemed to have solved the row. The White House said that Colombia agreed to “all the demands of President Trump.”
The proposed definitions of Trump were “fully formulated” and will continue to be implemented if Colombia did not honor this agreement, according to the White House.
Trump has also announced visa sanctions and strengthening Colombians on the border. The White House said this will remain in place “until the first loading of Colombian is successfully re -downloaded.”
