Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khounai rejected the idea of negotiations with the United States on its nuclear program, and Tehran also confirmed to receive a letter from President Donald Trump.
Last week, Trump said the message proposed talks about a deal that would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and avoiding possible military measures.
Although Khounai said he had not seen the message delivered by an official from the United Arab Emirates, he rejected it as “a deception of public opinion.”
“When we know they will not honor that, what is the benefit of negotiation?” He asked, referring to Trump’s decision to abandon the Iranian nuclear deal for 2015 during his first term.
He warned that Iran would decrease in the event of strikes on its nuclear facilities.
“Iran does not seek war, but if the Americans or their agents take a wrong step, our response will be decisive and certain, and the person who will suffer from the greatest harm is America.”
The Supreme Leader, who has the final statement on all state issues, also stressed that Iran is “not interested in nuclear weapons.”
Ten years ago, the country agreed to a historical deal with six global powers – China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States – to reduce its nuclear activities and allow inspectors of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (International Atomic Energy Agency) in exchange for the relief of sanctions.
However, Trump withdrew the United States unilaterally from the agreement in 2018 and restored US economic sanctions. He described it as “the worst deal in history”, saying that it has only done very little to stop Iran’s potential path to build a nuclear bomb.
Iran has been increasingly violating the conditions of the deal, especially those that limit enriched uranium production, which can be used to produce fuel for nuclear power plants as well as to build nuclear weapons.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said last month that Iran has stored nearly 275 kg (606 pounds) of enriched uranium to 60 % purity, which is near the degree of weapons. This will be enough, if fertilized to 90 %, for six nuclear bombs.
Both the United States and Israel have warned that they would never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. Israel threatened with a strike of Iranian nuclear facilities if necessary.
Last year, Israel said it hit part of the Iranian nuclear program during the strikes carried out in response to an Iranian missile attack.
In a television interview broadcast last Friday, Trump said: “There are two ways that can deal with Iran: militarily, or face a deal.
“I wrote to them a message saying:” I hope you negotiate, “he added, because if we have to enter militarily, this will be terrible for them.”
The White House did not give any details about the contents of the message, which Iran said was delivered to Foreign Minister Abbas Archchi by the presidential advisor in the United Arab Emirates Anwar Gargash.
Although the supreme leader rejected the idea of negotiations with the United States, Iran’s mission to the United Nations said in a statement on Sunday that it might consider talks “if the goal is to address fears in exchange for any possible militarization of the Iranian nuclear program.”
Archchi also said on Wednesday that the nuclear talks with the United Kingdom, France and Germany are “continuing”, while the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that China, Russia and Iran will discuss the “Iranian nuclear issue” at a triple meeting in Beijing on Friday.
