Cadillac F1 Dan Torres says the team will not be “just seizing” any American driver while they are ready to join the Formula 1 network in 2026.
It was confirmed in November 2024 that the Cadillac offer – from GM giant for American cars and the American Global Group – received approval from Formula 1.
Looking at the main factor behind the team’s acceptance in this sport, their perceived ability to grow F1 in the United States is widely expected to sign at least at least one American driver for their first campaign.
Towriss, a TWG spokesman, says he is keen to find an American driver for the team but a “appropriate” operation will be followed.
He said Sky Sports News: “I think we would like to see an American driver in Formula 1, but we definitely want to make sure that we do this in the right way.
“I think it is extremely important that this person is prepared for success. It will not be a process to seize only an American and stick it behind the wheel. We want to do it correctly, and more.”
America has a long history of drivers in F1, but it has not produced many in recent years, as Logan Sargent has lost his seat in the middle of the road until 2024 after failing to show signs of improvement during his second season in Williams.
With a return to the unlikely SARGEANT network, any American signature lacks the F1 experience, which Towriss admits will search for knowledge in their other seat.
He said: “I definitely think an experienced driver is very important to prepare a new team from this point, so we are definitely looking to bring some experience to the Tarfin driver.
“There are a number of American drivers who have experience in the Formula Lower series. So this is not Formula 1 but there are drivers who know the paths and they were in the lower Formula series, brought up there.
“Therefore, we will work on that and we will see what will happen.”
Towriss was a useful figure on the way of the Cadillac team to F1, with his replacement of Michael Andretti last September, where the header appears to be a major factor.
Just 10 months before agreeing to enter Cadillac, Formula 1 rejected what was essentially an attempt to introduce the same team while led by Andrieti and under the name of his name called.
“I think there is a lot of work behind the scenes you know, and in fact it helps in understanding only Formula 1, which helps Liberty Media understand what the offer is from this point,” Torres said.
“I think there was certainly some confusion about the data he made over a period of time, and after it became clear that the Kadillac F1 team, they saw that we were providing value to the series.
“I think they realized this and we were able to reach conditions about the role of a new team in Formula 1 and so we are very excited about that.
“But yes, it has changed a lot when we somewhat from the previous direction and I think the rest is the date as they say.”
Towriss for the leadership of the MotorsPorts section
Cadillac F1 will be able to call for the experience of many higher teams of the American racing chain, after launching Twg Motorsports led by Towriss.
The Twg Global extension, a group of stakes in the Chelsea team in the Premier League, and MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers and NBA’s LOS LOKERS, will include Cadillac F1 with the likes of Andretti Global, which competes in Indycar and Formula E.
“Twg Global Today announces the launch of Twg Motorsports, a new section that was created to collect a group of leading motorcycle organizations to advance competitive excellence, creativity and commercial innovation around the world, with the aim of challenging very higher than sport.”
“Dan has been a key role in forming the Cadillac Formula 1 teams for the features in partnership with General Motors and the acquisition of the Twg Global Race Portfolio, which is a wide racing group that includes Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing and Spire Motorsports. “
Towriss says that the new F1 input will use the TWG experience via motorsport – and other sports – to ensure that they bring something new and exciting to the network.
He said: “I think the most exciting thing with Cadillac with General Motors is the partnership, and the cooperation that we have through the teams to really compare it and deepen our collective experiences.
“We really want to bring something new to the world of Formula 1. You should not expect a team from the Cookie Cuteer Formula 1 team from the new Cadillac F1 team.
“It’s a new team, so there will be a lot that can be seen. I’m sure there will be some massacre along the way, looking at a new team.
“We will have a lot to offer and we will think about this globally, which is Formula 1 and not just focus on the United States.”
