The new Cadillac team will join the network from the 2026 season after approving the entry supported by General Motors by FIA and F1.
The confirmation of the entry of the Luxury brand of GMCANAN CAR GIANT in this sport means that the Formula 1 network will expand to 11 teams from next year.
It was announced last November that Cadillac had obtained an agreement in principle to join the network as part of a revised offer from General Motors in conjunction with the American TworsPorts group, which sees General Motors committed to managing its business engine by the end of the contract.
Before the work engine is ready for use, the Cadillac team got a deal to run the Ferrari engine and the gearbox initially from its first season in a deal announced in December.
General Motors has established its engine company to develop the first F1 power unit.
Reading a short joint statement: “FIA and Formula 1 can confirm that, after completing the sporting, technical and commercial assessments of each of them, the General Motors and TWG Motorsports application was approved to bring the Cadillac team to the World Formula One world championship.”
“As we said in November, the commitment from General Motors was to bring the Cadillac team to Formula 1 an important and positive evidence for the development of our sport,” said the President of the F1 Stefano Domainali.
“I would like to thank General Motors and Twg for their constructive participation for many months, and I look forward to welcoming the team on the network from 2026 for what will be another exciting year for formula 1.”
“Today represents a transformative moment, and I am proud to lead the federation in this progressive step of the tournament.
“Formula One’s expansion with the 11th team in 2026 is a landmark. GM/Cadillac brings new energy, as it is in line with the new FIA 2026 regulations and entering an exciting era for this sport.
“The presence of the Cadillac Formula 1 team in the ring will inspire competitors and fans in the future. Their entry enhances our mission to push the boundaries of motorsport at the highest level.”
Dan Towriss is the CEO of Twg Motorsport Arm from Twg Global, who already runs different entities around the world, while British Grame Lowdon, the former sports director of the Marussia team, is the manager of the Cadillac team.
Although F1 originally rejected a preliminary version of the show, which was approved and placed for final consideration by FIA, for the team to join the network before 2028 when it was presented under the name Andretti with the support of General Motors in January 2024, the sport left the door open to look at the reference proposal.
It is understood that the larger adherence to General Motors – one of the three major American features – to build its own engine for the future and the deal to the source of the power generation generation generation deal from the current F1 company in the interrelated period to avoid the arrangement of mandatory supply that has proven decisive in the F1 corridors in the second repetition of input disease.
Mario Andreiti, the legend of the US race and world champion in 1978, is still part of the project as a consultant.
