Caroline Dubois has her sights set on unifying the world title and called for a match with Terry Harper next.
Dubois holds the WBC lightweight world championship, while his British rival Harper holds the WBO title.
“135 pounds is my division. I want to be undisputed by the end of the year. That’s the goal, that’s my goal and we’re going to get there,” Dubois said. Sky Sports.
“Unification, undisputed challenge, challenge for all belts, challenge to make it happen. Anything that can make it happen as quickly as possible.”
DuBois didn’t get the Christmas present she wanted on Saturday when she turned 24. She was seeking a knockout victory over Jessica Kamara.
Looking for a stoppage finish, she subjected Kamara to a relentless attack over two rounds. But when the injury caused by an unintentional head kick prevented Kamara from continuing, it meant that the match ended early in a technical draw.
Immediately afterwards Du Bois announced what she wanted next: “Terry Harper. This is what I want. Terry Harper – I want you!”
Dubois said Sky Sports: “We’ve got a Royal Albert Hall show coming soon [on March 7]. This is in London. Terry is from England, and I am from England. It’s a local confrontation. It makes sense. I don’t see why not.
“Fight me, you’ll get beat, but you’ll get a big show, and you’ll get paid well, and that will make it worthwhile.”
Promoter Ben Shalom notes that Dubois has other options for a fight on March 7.
“The idea is that she will fight on women’s night and it will be a big fight,” Shalom said. Sky Sports.
“We want her to become undisputed in the division. We believe we can achieve that this year.”
He believes Dubois’ next fight should be a unification. “The focus for us is to get another belt. Obviously you have Terry Harper, you have Beatrice Ferreira [the IBF champion]and you probably have Stephanie Hahn [for the vacant] “WBA title,” Shalom said.
“You’ve got those three on the list, and Rhiannon Dixon is on the list too. It’s a great British fight. So, she has options.”
Shalom expects to fight Harper sometime in 2025. “I think it will happen this year,” he said. “And I think we’ll see that this year.”
“I think they’re open to it. It would be expensive because no one really wants to fight Caroline. I think it’s the toughest fight in the division for everyone and it’s a financial fight for anyone.
“She’s created a lot of hype around her. She’s a big name, a lot of people see her as the next face of women’s boxing and that means fighters want big paychecks in their careers to face Caroline Dubois.”
“This is what Terry Harper wants and I think that fight will happen this year.”
Natasha Jonas will face Lauren Price in a unification match for the welterweight world title on March 7 live Sky Sports.
