The presidency of the country says that the militia -led militia, which controls northeastern Syria, has agreed to an agreement to integrate all military and civil institutions in the Syrian state.
The agreement says that the US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) will stop fighting and hand over border jobs in the region, airport, and vital oil and gas fields.
It also recognizes the Kurdish minority as “an integral part of the Syrian state” and guarantees “the rights of all Syrians to act and participate in the political process.”
SDF commander Mazloum Abdel -Defa, who signed alongside interim President Ahmed Al -Sharra, described “a real opportunity to build a new Syria.”
“We are committed to building a better future that guarantees the rights of all Syrians and their aspirations for peace and dignity,” he wrote at X on Monday night.
The deal represents a major step towards the Shara goal to unify the broken country after his Sunni Islamic group led the rebel attack that toppled President Bashar al -Assad in December.
The size of this challenge was made clear by the recent violence in western Syria, where the attacks on security forces by loyal Assad have sparked revenges in which more than 1,000 civilians were killed, most of whom were members of the Assad sect.
The deal can also cancel SDF permits with neighboring Türkiye and the former Syrian factions supported by Turkish allied to the government, which is trying to remove the alliance outside the regions near the border.
SDF, which contains tens of thousands of armed and trained fighters well, was not aligned with the Assad regime or opposition during the 13 -year -old civil war.
It currently controls more than 46,000 square kilometers (18,000 square miles) of land in the northeast, where the Islamic State Group (IS) was defeated in 2019 with the help of a US -led coalition.
SDF plays a major role in the independent administration of the northern and eastern Syria (ANES), which also governs the Kurdish region as Rojava.
About 10,000 fighters are held in SDF prisons spread throughout the region and about 46,000 other people linked to it, most of them women and children, in many camps.
Since the fall of the lion, SDF has warned that attacks from the corners -backed factions compel them to turn fighters away from prison guard and the way to appear.
The Turkish government is the largest militia in SDF and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), as a terrorist organization. She says YPG is an extension of the banned PKK group (PKK) that launched a rebellion in Türkiye for decades, but its imprisoned leader recently announced the ceasefire.
There was no immediate comment from Türkiye in response to the Monday agreement.
Between 25 and 35 million Kurds, they live in a mountainous area roaming in the borders of Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Iran and Armenia. They are the fourth largest ethnic group in the Middle East, but they have not obtained a permanent national state.
The Syrian Kurds, who make up about 10 % of the population, have been suppressed, and were deprived of basic rights during the rule of the Assad family.
