Israel has expelled the population of three refugee camps in the occupied West Bank because it rises a large operation for a month in the Palestinian territories.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the camps in Jenin, Tolkram and Nour Shams are now “empty” and the Israeli army will occupy them for the next year.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had deployed a tank section throughout the city of Jenin – the first time that it has taken it since 2002. The Palestinian Authority has condemned this step.
The United Nations said earlier this month that the Israeli operation, which started on January 21 and intensified in recent days, led to the “forced displacement”, which reached 40,000 people.
“Until now, 40,000 Palestinians have been evacuated from refugee camps in Jenin, Tolkram, and Nour Shams, who are now empty of the population,” Israel Cats said in a statement.
“I asked [troops] To prepare for a long presence in the camps that have been purified for the next year and to prevent the return of the population and the renewal of terrorism.
He also said that Israel had instructed the Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA) to stop working in the region.
Nabil Abu Rodin, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, described the decision to publish tanks as “a dangerous Israeli escalation that will not lead to stability or calm.”
The Israeli Defense Army said in a statement that its forces “continue the operation to thwart terrorism” and expand their “offensive activity” – which has so far included drones, tanks, special forces, border police, and their activities from the Shin Bet Intelligence Agency.
The United Nations said on Thursday that since Israeli operations began on January 21, 51 Palestinians, including seven children, were killed in Jenin, Tolkram and Tobas, in addition to three Israeli soldiers.
She said that the attack caused severe damage to water and sewage infrastructure, which led to the disruption of water access to “tens of thousands of people.”
His office said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Tolkarm refugee camp on Friday and ordered the army to intensify “operational activity.”
Netanyahu said: “We are entering the strongholds of the terrorists, and we are in the entire streets used by terrorists and their homes. We are eliminating the terrorists, leaders,” Netanyahu said.
His visit followed the explosion of three buses in Tel Aviv, which Israeli officials described as a “suspected terrorist attack” that resulted from the bombs of the previously in the West Bank.
Israel has occupied the West Bank in the six -day war of 1967, and since then it has built about 160 settlements with about 700,000 Jews. The settlements are illegal under international law, although Israel is opposed to this.
