David Allen refuses to see himself as the underdog against Johnny Fisher.
The heavyweight duo battle it out on Saturday’s Riyadh season bill headlined by Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury, live. Sky Sports Box Office.
Fisher, the “Rumford Bull,” is a popular rising heavyweight and an undefeated favorite in this fight.
Allen Doncaster is a veteran of punishing fights. However he said Sky Sports: “I think experience is a factor. But I’m better than him. Honestly. For a lot of people, it seems silly because they’ve seen me out of shape.
“Johnny Fisher is very conscientious and very intelligent. People around him say he’s better than him. He’s good but he’s not great.”
Allin had a sparring session with Fisher, believing that this would exploit his opponent’s mind.
“I think he’d be nervous because we had a fight and I got all over him. He’s seen me for years on TV and he kind of looked up to me. I’ve been in that situation,” Allen said. “There’s a lot of me against David Price in this fight.
“When he boxed Price, I’m a David Price fan and I’m punching David Price, it shocked me a little bit.”
But Allen also revealed that he himself would be “terrified.”
“I boxed really good fighters, but never once did I think, ‘He’s going to knock me down or get out.’” “It never crossed my mind: If he hits me, I’m going to get over him,” Allen said.
“It really excited me. The thought of being in a highlight reel is terrifying. I’ve trained really hard. Mainly for that reason.”
“I’m not lying. It’s not mind games. I’ll go try to tackle him, and he’ll come try to tackle me. That’s good. I’m faster, I’ve been very fast,” Allen declared. Good amateurs.
“I’m going to treat it like a three-round, three-minute boxing contest. I’m going to win all three rounds and there’s going to be a good chance I can lead him into something and knock him out. That’s how I’m approaching this fight.
“I’m only going to get the better of him in three rounds, and if I get the better of him I’m going to lead him to something…and if we get past the three rounds, we’ll make it a four-round amateur fight the old-fashioned way.”
Although Fisher responded by saying Sky Sports“If I’m not nervous, something’s wrong.”
But he added: “I’m not nervous about the fight. I was 19 when it happened and it was just a struggle. Nothing happened in that fight that was unexpected. I didn’t go down, I didn’t go down and prove it.” To myself that day, I could become a professional boxer because I could take the punishment and keep moving forward.
“I’m ready for any eventuality. I can box and punch as well. So if he wants to throw the kitchen sink at him in the first round, that might be his only option, we’ll see.”
“He can take a three-round fight. That would be great because then he’s a rip from the get-go. And I like a rip.”
