Graham Potter has signed a contract confirming his appointment as the new manager of West Ham United. Sky Sports News It has been said.
West Ham called a press conference at nine o’clock on Thursday morning at the London Stadium.
Potter – who could take charge of a difficult FA Cup third-round trip to Aston Villa on Friday – is set to return to management 20 months after being sacked by Chelsea after just seven months and 31 games into a five-year contract.
The time is right for Potter
Sky Sports News Cafe Solhikule:
“He was waiting for West Ham to do what they did and part ways with Lopetegui.
“The timing is right for both of them. West Ham need a bit of stability at the moment. It’s right because Graham Potter wants a project. He’s ready to get back into management.”
“I think the owners and fans will like his style of football, the fact that he encourages young people, the fact that he likes a progressive style.
“But can he achieve that instant success? Five of his next seven Premier League games are London derbies – with a return to Stamford Bridge in the middle of them.”
“Sporting director Steden will be under scrutiny.”
Sky Sports News correspondent Dharmesh Sheth:
“I think there will be a lot of interest in sporting director Tim Steiden.
“Julen Lopetegui was unanimously chosen by the board to take over as West Ham coach; if you spoke to some of the fans, they were a little let down by the appointment. Now he’s gone, you’d think there would be a little bit of pressure on Staten.
“They spent over £100m in the summer and he was instrumental in the recruitment process. By definition, given Lopetegui’s departure, you could almost describe those first few weeks as a bit of a failure and what it looked like in the transfer window.
“Given this transfer window, I think it will be really interesting to see what kind of signings West Ham make and more scrutiny on their sporting director.”
