Jadon Sancho excelled with Chelsea, scoring in two consecutive matches in the English Premier League, as Enzo Maresca’s team continued its excellent start to the season.
The England winger is on loan from Manchester United but is finally starting to show the quality that made him a star at Borussia Dortmund earlier in his career.
And here sits the 24-year-old Sky Sports News’ Paul Gilmour discusses life at Chelsea, his goals and ambitions for this season and whether he can really help the team he supported as a boy to a shock Premier League title this season…
Consecutive goals in the English Premier League…
“I’ve been practicing shooting. I like to give my friends glory in front of the camera, so I try to help them as much as I can, but in training they saw I got a great shot, and I know I can shoot. I’ve just been practicing it and I’m happy I scored the goal against Tottenham.” .
“I’m just focusing on each match individually, and I hope I can maintain this moment. I’m very happy, I’m working hard for the team, and the main goal is to get the three points every week.”
Chelsea squad depth.
“The players in the team are of high quality, so every day in training we push each other. Every time we get a chance, we want to show what we can do and I feel the team has created a nice bond within the team.” “The locker room, I think all those performances combined were there on the field.”
Chelsea Football League…
“Everyone is similar in age and most of the boys have been playing for a long time and have a lot of experience. It’s good to be in and around the group and training is fun. Everyone has a smile on their face and they push everyone.” Each other to do the extras and that’s what we need.
“We can rotate at any moment, we have two or three players in each position. There’s the Conference League and the Premier League – playing both back-to-back can be difficult sometimes, so getting the right balance of playing time is crucial.”
Enzo Maresca…
He added: “He is a very good coach and understands the players, but it will be very difficult for you if you do not do the right things. I feel that every player is convinced by the way he works and is eager to learn.”
“My first conversation with him I had a good feeling and a good impression so I wanted to play under him. It was as if when I entered the room I felt his aura and his presence, especially when he talks to you because he plays the lead role.” “The game so he has a lot of experience and he can teach all the players something, so I feel it was good.”
Mariska’s demands…
“He asks everyone to work hard every day, and I believe that if you don’t work hard you won’t play. I feel like every player understands how he wants us to work, and again he personally told me to do what I usually do.” Go into 1v1 mode, create space for others and just try to get into the right positions to create scoring chances. He likes to have each player play at least one or two positions in case you are needed in those areas or if players are not available. He’s big on it.”
Chelsea’s goals and talk about the title race…
“We are taking it one game at a time and every game will be difficult. We have a long season ahead of us, so none of the players are thinking about anything now. That’s what all the players say to each other. We’ve done it.” We haven’t done anything yet but we’re grateful to be in “That attitude, we train hard and we change it up on game days.”
Sancho’s personal goals…
“Hopefully I can continue to create chances to score and help my teammates and get into a good rhythm throughout the season. [in response to a question about how demanding it is in a long season] It is difficult to play in the Premier League and other competitions. It can get exhausting at times because there are so many games in a row. “I feel like the coach is following instructions and making sure we know what we’re doing on the pitch and how to help each other, so I think that’s good.”
Mark Cucurella’s mistakes at Tottenham…
“Well, I’m sure you saw his Instagram story about the shoe. That shoe is no longer with us, unfortunately! It happens to all of us and mistakes happen in the game. How he recovered from mistakes was crazy and I even got an assist on my goal and we won and he made a game.” “Great, Cucurella is a great player so you don’t have to worry.”
He played for the club he supported when he was a boy.
“I grew up as a Chelsea fan. Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard were the players I looked up to when I was growing up, so it was a nice feeling. I feel like making it professionally on my own is the best feeling. Any young kid can dream. Just to be out there and play football, so I’m really lucky in that aspect.”
