Jarrod Bowen faces about six weeks on the sidelines due to a foot fracture he suffered against Liverpool. Sky Sports News Understands.

The 28-year-old limped off in the 60th minute as Julen Lopetegui’s side suffered a massive defeat at the London Stadium and no timetable has been set for his return.

Bowen revealed that he was injured during the first half, but he tried to continue playing.

There have been concerns that Bowen, who has scored six goals this season, could be sidelined for up to two months, but Hammers boss Lopetegui is hopeful the 28-year-old will be back in action soon.

“Unfortunately for us, yes, he has an injury,” Lopetegui said. “He was only able to play 30 minutes because of this injury, and now he has to rest and recover.

“Let’s see, but it won’t take a few days. It’s not good news for us, but it’s a good time for the other players we have.

“We are sure that Jarrod will recover faster because of his character, but it is true that he will miss the next matches.

“Let’s see. I prefer not to talk about one number because we have to see how it develops in the coming weeks.

“Jarrod is one of our key players, for sure, and our leader as well. But now we have to be able to find a solution, and this is the moment for the other players to show that they are ready to help us and make sure that their answer is going to be a good one.

He added: “So we are looking for Jarrod to recover as soon as possible, but in the same way, we believe in the players in the team and they will try to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Bowen is West Ham’s top scorer this season with five goals in the Premier League and has the most assists with four.

His injury comes as a strong blow to Lopetegui, who has been under intense pressure since taking over from David Moyes in the summer.

West Ham ranks 13th in the English Premier League after six wins from 19 matches, and occupies second place, eight points behind the bottom three.

Tomas Soucek is set to take the captain’s armband for Saturday’s trip to Manchester City.

There was positive news from the Hammers camp this week when Michail Antonio was released from hospital following his car accident early last month.

The 34-year-old striker underwent surgery on a broken leg and will need a long period of rehabilitation following his injury.

“Michael will definitely be out for a long time,” Lopetegui said. “But it’s good news that he’s home.

He added: “He enjoys his family and will certainly try to recover as soon as possible, but we will not have Antonio for a long time.”
