Joe Root to make ODI return for England but injured Ben Stokes to miss India tour and ICC Champions Trophy | Cricket News happymamay

Joe Root will return to one-day cricket for England’s tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, but Ben Stokes has been ruled out through injury.

Brendan McCullum’s first squad as England’s white-ball coach has been named ahead of next month’s tour of India – which includes three ODIs, five IT20 matches – and the Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February and March.

Yorkshireman Root, who has not played ODI cricket since the World Cup in November 2023, returns in an ODI capacity only.

England captain Stokes has not been selected for selection as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury suffered against New Zealand earlier this month.

After impressing with bat and ball in England’s Test series win in New Zealand, Warwickshire’s Jacob Bethell has been named in both squads.
