Former Australia opener Justin Langer has been appointed as the new head coach of the London Spirit men’s team at The Hundred.
Langer’s appointment comes a month after former England national team coach Trevor Bayliss left his position.
Bayliss has managed just three wins over the past two seasons, leaving Lord’s in seventh place in 2023 and last in 2024.
Langer played 105 Tests for Australia, scoring more than 7,500 runs, and was his country’s head coach from 2018 to 2022, winning an Ashes title and also lifting the T20 World Cup in the UAE in 2021.
The 54-year-old has coached Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and is the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.
Langer played for Middlesex as an overseas player between 1998 and 2000 and is excited to return to Lord’s with the Spirit as he aims to turn around the team’s fortunes.
“I’m excited to experience The Hundred,” Langer said. “I look forward to being part of the tournament later this year and working with a talented group of players and coaches,” he added.
London Spirit women’s team won The Hundred in 2024, defeating Welsh Fire in the final.
Langer’s fellow Australians Lisa Keightley and Michael Klinger will take over womenswear at The Hundred in 2025, with the former set at Northern Superchargers and the latter at Manchester Originals.
Matches for the 2025 edition of The Hundred have not yet been announced, but the competition will take place in August.
