Mikel Arotta was ‘absolutely smoked’ over Michael Oliver’s decision to send on Myles Lewis-Skelly in the first half of Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Wolves
As the first half came to an end, Lewis-Skelly caught Matt Doherty near the edge of the Wolves box and the referee sent the 18-year-old Oliver on for dangerous play.
“I can’t believe Michael Oliver has sent Lewis-Skelly out there,” Tim Sherwood said, as Farry stuck to the on-field official’s call.
Arsenal won 1-0 thanks to Ricardo Calaveri’s second-half winner – which came four minutes after Joao Gomez turned down two yellow cards for picking up Lewis Skelly at Gurian Timber – but Arteta still couldn’t hide as the officials disappeared at full-time.
“Obviously I will leave it up to you guys,” she told Arteta Sky Sports. “I fully support. But I’ll leave it with you. I obviously don’t think my words will help.”
Asked if Arsenal would resume serving, Arteta replied: “That is for the club to decide what is the best decision. Obviously we probably don’t even need to.” [put in an appeal].
“He’s really happy now that the team has won and found a way to win it. He’s very worried about what will happen next because he feels strongly that there is nothing to do with the event.”
More to follow.
