Odell Beckham Jr released by Miami Dolphins: What next for veteran receiver? | NFL News happymamay

The Miami Dolphins have released wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr, ending the three-time Pro Bowler’s brief tenure with the team.

Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Dolphins in May, but began the season physically unable to perform after having offseason knee surgery. He left after just nine catches for 55 yards in nine games.

Beckham had missed training in the past two days for what the team described as personal reasons. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel indicated Friday that the decision to part ways was mutual.

“Odell and I have been in great touch since he’s been here,” McDaniel told reporters. “He’s had a tough start in terms of having to rehabilitate his way into the season and then simply looking at it, well, what’s best for him and the team moving forward?

“We thought this was the right time to move in this direction. That was the impetus for it. That’s it.”

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson makes his bid for the best catch of 2024 with a stunning landing catch that resembles Odell Beckham Jr.’s famous catch 10 years ago.

Beckham, the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, rose to stardom in his first five NFL seasons with the New York Giants.

Despite missing the first four games of his first season due to injury, Beckham broke all kinds of receiving records, becoming the first player to record more than 75 receptions, 1,100 yards, and 10 touchdowns in his rookie year.

During Week 12 of the 2014 season, Beckham cemented himself forever in NFL history when he made a one-handed catch in a Sunday Night Football game with the Dallas Cowboys, considered by many to be the greatest of all time.

Odell Beckham Jr. described his famous 2014 goal against the Dallas Cowboys to the New York Giants as both a blessing and a curse.

Traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019, OBJ’s three years in Ohio were even more difficult and he was eventually released midway through the 2021 season after his father complained on social media about the way his son was being used in the Browns offense.

He then signed with the Los Angeles Rams, where he won the Super Bowl that same season, although it was a bittersweet success as he suffered a torn ACL in the game that hampered his later years in the NFL.

After missing the entire 2022 season, Beckham signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 and had 35 points for 565 yards and three touchdowns last year before the Ravens cut him in March.

Brought to Miami in the offseason to be the third receiving option behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Beckham never seemed to fit into the Dolphins’ offense.

If he clears waivers, the 32-year-old will be free to sign with any team. While his best years are certainly behind him, that leaves open the possibility that the star wide receiver could once again compete with a Super Bowl contender like he did with the Rams in 2021.
