Philadelphia Eagles: AJ Brown aims dig at Jalen Hurts as Phoebe Schecter urges Super Bowl hopefuls to be more ‘selfless’ | NFL News happymamay

Drama has been brewing with the Philadelphia Eagles this week, despite the team sitting 11-2 on the season and in the midst of a nine-game winning streak.

After the Eagles beat the Carolina Panthers with a 22-16 three-game win last Sunday, star receiver AJ Brown told reporters that “passing” was the reason the offense wasn’t clicking as well as expected.

Defensive end Brandon Graham added fuel to the fire when he said Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts aren’t as close as they have been in the past.

Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles highlights from Week 14 of the NFL season.

“They were friends before that, but things have changed, and I understand that because life happens,” Graham said, before trying to rephrase his position by apologizing to both players “for assuming that wasn’t the case.”

Brown, who is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons but has held to just 109 receiving yards over the last two games, isn’t necessarily wrong in his assessment of the passing game’s recent slump.

Hurts, who signed a contract extension before the 2023 season worth $179.3 million guaranteed, has thrown for fewer than 200 yards in three straight games.

But Sky Sports’ Phoebe Scheckter reports on the latest news Inside the Huddle PodcastHe called on Brown and the Eagles to be more “selfless” in their quest for a Super Bowl title and avoid the same kind of collapse they suffered last season when they lost six of their last seven in the playoffs.

“AJ Brown comes out and says passing is the problem, you completely look at your quarterback and throw him under the bus,” Scheckter said of the three-time Pro Bowler’s comments.

“Then Brandon Graham came out and spoke about the fact that they weren’t at the same level – and then he retracted his statement.

“That’s what we saw from the Eagles at the end of last year, but things were going bad for them at that point…they were losing. That’s not what you do when you’re a winning team.”

“I understand that receivers want to touch the ball as much as possible, but if you want to be a team that’s going to the Super Bowl, there can’t be an ‘I’ on the team in that situation. You’ve got to be selfless.”

“Last year, I realized it was different: he was getting a lot of touches, like when he was with the team.” [Tennessee] Giants – it was their only weapon, basically.

“But of course, if I win, it’s good for everyone.”

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley’s best plays so far of the 2024 NFL season.

Also contributing to the Browns’ frustration may have been the addition of star running back Saquon Barkley in the offseason.

The former New York Giants running back leads the NFL in rushing with 1,623 yards, 216 yards behind the Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry, and is on pace to break Eric Dickerson’s 40-year single-season rushing record (2,105 in 1984) — he needs 483. More yards over the final four games of the season.

Barkley will continue his record-breaking bid as the Eagles seek a 10th straight win as they host the in-form 10-3 Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
