Scottie Scheffler to feature in AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in first event since Christmas dinner injury | Golf News happymamay

Scottie Scheffler has committed to play the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am next week, his first competition since injuring his right hand while preparing Christmas dinner.

Schaeffler said at the start of the week that the recovery was progressing well and he was keen to return but was not in a “rush back to colonise”.

Scheffler tied for sixth last year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Live On Sky Sports From January 30, when it was reduced to 54 holes due to raging wind and rain.

This will be Schaeffler’s first time playing in a tournament since winning the World Champion Challenge in the Bahamas for the second year in a row in December.

Scheffler also teamed with Rory McIlroy in Las Vegas to win a made-for-TV match that lasted only 14 holes against Brooks Quebec and Bryson DeChambeau.

The 28-year-old said he was unable to touch a club while his right hand is free from surgery that removed the glass and said: “It was unusual for me not to be able to do much in the gym.”

Scheffler had to miss guard at Kapalua and American Express last week in the California desert and has not revealed when he will be fit enough to play again.

Scheffler said he “almost lived this year for life” after he captured the FedExcup win, capping off a “Nuts” season — on and off the golf course.

The 28-year-old became the first player to win the Masters, Masters and FedExcup in the same season.

Scheffler closed out a four-stroke win at the Tour Championship at the end of the season, not giving up first place at any point over the four days and becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to record seven or more wins in one year on the PGA Tour.

After winning the Masters for the second time in three years, he was arrested and charged before his second round at the PGA Championship in May.

Those charges were later dropped with Scheffler winning the next two events – the Memorial Tournament and Travelers Championship – before securing gold for Team USA at the Paris Olympics and winning the PGA Tour at FedExcup for the first time in his career.
