Scottie Scheffler: World number one withdraws from PGA Tour season-opener after sustaining hand injury on Christmas Day | Golf News happymamay

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament after suffering a hand injury while preparing dinner on Christmas Day.

The Sentry takes place Jan. 2-5 at The Plantation Course at Kapalua on Maui, Hawaii, but the 2024 FedExCup champion has been sidelined for three to four weeks.

Schaeffler successfully defended his title at the Hero World Challenge earlier this month, but will now need surgery due to his accident.

His manager, Blake Smith, said in a statement: “On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scotty suffered a puncture wound in the palm of his right hand due to broken glass.”

“Small glass fragments remained in the palm of the hand, which required surgery.

“He has been told that he should be back to 100% within three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry.”

Schaeffler’s next scheduled tournament is The American Express, which will be held in California from January 16-19.

The 28-year-old became the first player to win The Players, The Masters and the FedExCup in the same season.
