Tommy Fleetwood took the winning point as Great Britain and Ireland completed a convincing Team Cup victory over Continental Europe by dominating the singles on Sunday in Abu Dhabi.
Fleetwood took the point that sealed the 2023 Team Europe win in Rome and repeated the feat in a Ryder Cup-style team event this week, played as part of the build-up ahead of the September trip to the Bethpage Blacks to take on Team USA.
Justin Rose’s Britain and Ireland won each of the first three sessions to move seven points ahead of Francesco Molinari’s continental European side, leaving them needing just two points from their ten games on the final day to win the biennial competition.
Lauri Kanter picked up his first singles point after defeating Romain Langesque 5&4, ending the Frenchman’s 100 per cent record in the event, before Fleetwood took the Britain and Ireland team to the 13 points needed for victory when he beat Mathieu Pavon 3&1 in a match. Top.
