Tyson Fury endured one of the most tense bouts of his career when he was defeated by Oleksandr Usyk in his first world heavyweight title bout.
In that ninth round, the referee deemed that Fury was only pinned by the ropes and gave him a count.
But instead of seeing that moment of extreme danger as a cause for concern, former champion Fury drew confidence from it.
“He had his best shots. He had 10 shots on target, all on target, and he never brought me down. So if he couldn’t bring me down when I was on Bambi’s legs, then God be with him this time,” Fury said. Sky Sports.
“I think he tried his best to get me out of there and he didn’t.”
He is adamant that when they fight in the Riyadh Season event this weekend, they will still be live Sky Sports Box OfficeHe will turn the tables on Usyk.
Fury warned his rival, saying: “Hit me as best as you can. I looked at him and smiled and he will feel angry and threatened this time. I have a point to prove.”
He is convinced that the first fight overall was more punishing for the Ukrainian than it was for him.
“After the fight, they said he had a broken bone in his face or jaw. There is a connection to that,” he said.
“I didn’t feel like I lost the fight at the time, and I didn’t feel like I lost the fight watching it back. So it’s up to people’s opinions. Some people thought he won, some people thought I won.
“It was a close fight and that’s what happens in close fights I guess. It could go either way.”
Count Fury took the ninth round even though it could have flipped the decision Usyk’s way. Fury insists that eliminating these mistakes will turn the rematch in his favor.
“With her [the count] “Because it was so close to the end of the fight, I think the judges saw that and relied on it a little more than they would have if it hadn’t happened,” he said.
“More focus if anything. More laser focus and not as much slapstick. If you take a couple of things out of the game plan, it’s a little bit more successful. There’s no big margins here. They only gave it to him by a margin.” a point, [it could have been] Split decision either way, tie, whatever.
“So there are no huge things that we can easily change. But what about this? What if I lost that round 10-8 in the ninth round? It’s no longer a draw or a point win, it’s a clear win.”
“A little trickery and a little more focus, laser focus, and I should do the job.”
He praised the technical superiority of both fighters in their first meeting, especially for two heavyweights.
“I was hitting him with big uppercuts at one stage, a big uppercut, right uppercuts, we’ve never seen a heavyweight throw, overhead kicks. It’s good, I enjoyed it,” he said.
“Styles make for different fights. As we’ve seen over the years with Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield, the two fights they’ve had have been very close. And they’re pretty similar. I expect them to be pretty similar, and I expect them to be. It’s a tough little fight.
“Even as a boxing fan, I’ve watched it so many times, it’s been swings and turns both ways and both fighters have had success.”
Now he added: “I feel like I’m ready to rock ‘n’ roll.
“I would be willing to do the work.”
