Nathan Aspinall claimed a 4-0 win over Andrew Gilding to propel himself into the last 16 of the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.

This is the first time in five years that Aspinall has reached the third round and he will now face Ricardo Petrichko in the round of 16.

It wasn’t the best start for either player in the final match of the afternoon session on Day 11, but it was Aspinall who pounced, with two breaks taking him through a tense first set.

The match continued with a throw for the first nine games, allowing Joyce to take the first set with his throw, then “Relentless” pounced in the deciding set in the second to break the throw and take a 2-0 lead.

However, Searle fought back and managed two breaks of his own to make it 2-2, hitting a decisive 50 per cent double and an average of 114.24 in the third set that put him back in the tie.

However, Joyce got back into it, winning five games in a row, and with the match level at 3-3, a dramatic 113 checkout in the seventh set tie-break gave Jordi the advantage, pinning his favorite D18 for the match.
